Description:
Join the IIC Fall Crew and spend your semester making a real impact on Southern Utah's public lands while gaining hands-on experience, exploring incredible places, and working with a close-knit team.
As a member of the four-person IIC Fall Crew, you'll work on a variety of exciting projects at Pipe Spring National Monument and the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.
The season begins with four weeks at Pipe Spring National Monument, where the crew will help restore the historic museum by repainting its interior. Before painting, you'll help carefully remove artifacts from display cases and return them once the project is complete. You will also help with painting prep, including sanding, taping, and masking in addition to painting walls, trim and display cases. This unique opportunity gives you the chance to work behind the scenes with National Park Service staff while helping preserve many important pieces of history. Depending on how quickly the painting project is completed, crew members may also assist with some re-veg and trail work as well. While at Pipe Spring, the crew will be provided free (shared) park housing at the National Monument. You'll also have access to great amenities, including partial furnishing, Wi-Fi, hot showers, and a shared kitchen and common room, providing you with modern comforts after work hours.
After completing the museum project, the crew will head to the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve. Unlike the first project, the Red Cliffs assignment allows you to return home every evening.
Responsibilities:
- The crew will be based out of Cedar City, UT, and drive to and from the worksite each day.
- At Red Cliffs, you'll spend your days exploring beautiful desert trails while improving the visitor experience.
- Hike throughout the trail system carrying Carsonite signs, tools, and equipment to install new trail signs, replace worn signs, and update trail markers.
- Every sign you install helps visitors safely enjoy the area's incredible landscape.

Qualifications:
- Enthusiasm for working outdoors in a team setting.
- Ability to hike several miles while carrying tools and equipment.
- Willingness to camp during the Pipe Spring portion of the project.
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions.
- Interest in conservation, public lands, or outdoor recreation is preferred but not required.
- Must be 18+
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Recent Southern Utah University (SUU) graduates looking to gain professional experience.
- Gap year students seeking meaningful, hands-on work before continuing school or starting a career.
- Students or recent graduates interested in conservation, public lands, outdoor recreation, or environmental stewardship.
- Individuals who enjoy working outdoors, learning new skills, and being part of a close-knit team.
Things unique about this location/position
This position will be a best fit for a recent graduate, a student taking a gap semester, or a current SUU student taking only a few credits online. You will get to work with a variety of land management professionals, including the National Park Service, as well as resource specialists based out of Washington County
